Mon Laferte profiled by The New York Times

"Mon Laferte has a voice for every passion... It can, and does, go straight to the heart." - The New York Times

Last Week The Chilean Songstress Won The Latin Grammy® For Best Singer- Songwriter Album With "Seis" And Gave A Stunning Performance At The 2021 Award Ceremony, Joined By Gloria Trevi And La Arrolladora Banda Limón De René Camacho

1940 Carmen, Her New Studio Album, Was Written & Recorded Over Four Months In Los Angeles. It Is A Snapshot In Time That Resulted In New Music, A 27 Date Tour Across The U.S. & A Pregnancy

"The Chilean songwriter Mon Laferte has a voice for every passion. She can engage the personal and the political; she can coo a romantic ballad or spearhead a hard-rock attack. Her voice can tease, bite, whisper, croon, rasp or rise to a banshee wail. It can, and does, go straight to the heart… Regardless of language, Laferte’s intensity and commitment are unmistakable.” - New York Times

"The album overflows with bright, acoustic sounds, inspired by delicate folk songs and sun-lit days in L.A. But the themes of the LP… are achingly personal, reflecting a period in her life that was pivotal, intense and filled with emotion.” - Rolling Stone (on 1940 Carmen)

“She's such a musical chameleon in that she adapts the culture and geography of where she is and puts it in her music... Her literally naming it after the space where she was when she was creating it is her nodding to the fact that she is able to grab the essence of wherever she is in that moment and represent that in the music that she is making there." - NPR Music (on 1940 Carmen)

New York, NY (November 22, 2021) - Mon Laferte completed a sold-out national tour at the end of October and released 1940 Carmen, her second album of 2021, to worldwide acclaim.

1940 Carmen was written and recorded while she was in Los Angeles from March to July 2021, and named after the address of the Airbnb where she stayed. All of the tracks were written, composed, and produced by Mon and include her first foray singing in English. 1940 Carmen is a snapshot of four months in her life in the US, which resulted in a new album, a mostly sold-out national tour of the US, and a pregnancy. Enjoy Mon Laferte's first English performance with "A Crying Diamond."

1940 Carmen follows the release of SEIS in April, which garnered Mon four Latin Grammy Award nominations for ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Best Pop Song’, ‘Best Singer-Songwriter Album’ and ‘Best Regional Song’. Mon Laferte and Gloria Trevi will join La Arrolladora Banda El Limón de René Camacho for a powerful medley during the Latin Grammy Awards this Thursday, November 18, which will include "La Mujer," currently nominated for 'Best Pop Song'.

The New York Times spoke to Mon Laferte about both albums saying, “The Chilean songwriter Mon Laferte has a voice for every passion… Regardless of language, Laferte’s intensity and commitment are unmistakable.”  Rolling Stone said, “The album overflows with bright, acoustic sounds, inspired by delicate folk songs and sun-lit days in L.A. But the themes of the LP… are achingly personal, reflecting a period in her life that was pivotal, intense and filled with emotion.” NPR Music acclaimed, “She's such a musical chameleon in that she adapts the culture and geography of where she is and puts it in her music... Her literally naming it after the space where she was when she was creating it is her nodding to the fact that she is able to grab the essence of wherever she is in that moment and represent that in the music that she is making there.”

After her release day album signing at Amoeba in Hollywood, followed by a sold-out performance at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Mon Laferte headed back to Mexico, where she performed at Pal Norte. Mon has announced three nights at Teatro Metropolitano in Mexico City on December 7, 8, and 9. The December 7 and 8 performances are sold out and tickets for December 9 are available HERE.
